2:33 PM – Keys don’t work, door left unlocked & mold patched over
Coastline locked us out of our apartment — changing our locks without knowledge or consent on Sept 14th — but the company would leave our apartment unlocked for the next several weeks to expose our belongings to theft.
Coastline patched over the hole in the ceiling of the living room without proper mold remediation but left a gaping hole to the molded area exposed in the upstairs bathroom floor and vanity.
Coastline leaves equipment behind as well as exposed upturned nails in bathroom.
Sticky liquid trailed by Coastline workers through downstairs.
2:34 PM – Spotlight view of still-exposed mold area in upstairs bathroom
Shoddy living room ceiling patch job down below attempts to cover over the mold problem without proper remediation.
2:38 PM – Exposed upturned nails still stand on bathroom floor
Must be stepped over to access toilet and shower.
3:13 PM – A phone call to Coastline
It’s become apparent Coastline has not remediated mold and expects us to move back into a toxic apartment. Our call to confirm goes unanswered.
3:23 PM – Gloria attempts gaslighting via text message
She claims the “air clearance” came back good and we can move back. We are never shown evidence of this air clearance, and, if it were performed, then the air was likely sampled in the living room underneath the ceiling patch job to fix the results in Coastline’s favor.
Afternoon – Multiple calls to environmental companies
Dumbfounded, we call around to mold remediation companies inquiring about the mold remediation process. Each company tells us that remediation requires:
- two to four days to complete
- zero-pressure containment area
- specialized heated dehumidifiers
All work done in our unit took place in 4 hours with no special equipment. They simply did not remediate the mold properly and lied to us about an “air clearance.”
5:43 PM – Ameriflood Environmental’s Survey
We hire Robert Soto, owner of Ameriflood Environmental, to perform an environmental survey of the unit that evening to avoid Coastline workers.
Robert immediately points out Coastline’s many mistakes:
- No negative pressure containment, so mold spores had spread throughout the apartment in the five days since the affected area was opened.
- The dehumidifier is obsolete
- The dehumidifier was used improperly. To penetrate plaster and carpet, the dehumidifier would have to run for at least seven days concurrently with high heat. The dehumidifier Coastline installed did not provide heat so the mold continued to thrive.
- Robert identified five more areas of probable mold — the living room floor, south-facing living room wall and ceiling north past the ceiling fan, the bathroom floor and inside the bathroom vanity. Coastline willfully ignores areas of concern with Jimmy Ordaz saying that Robert likely used a “cheap moisture detector that you or I could buy at Home Depot.”
Robert performed a mold air test inside the bathroom vanity in order to get to the affected area that was haphazardly patched over with plaster on the living room ceiling that morning. He said results would come back in 24-36 hours.
