For more than 10 years under the previous owners, we paid an electric bill of no more than $75/month. Our electric bill for March of 2021 was $453.
Alarmed, we immediately reached out to the electric company which sent a technician that couldn’t find the source of the high energy bills. But the bills died back down to their normal rate only to spike to $202 again in June.
By process of elimination, we determine the unit’s hot water heater underneath the building is causing the high electricity bills. Our first work order on June 21 goes ignored.
July 2, 2021 – Veronica reaches back out
Veronica again requests an electrician and plumber to get to the bottom of the sky-high electric bills.
July-2-2021-hot-h2o-heater-high-electric-Submission-of-a-Service-RequestJuly 3rd to the 14th, 2021 – Forced to turn breakers on/off
We’ve determined that the source of the high electric bills is the hot water heater underneath the building. We are forced to flip the breaker to the hot water heater on/off when we need to shower or wash dishes. Coastline sends a worker to fix the issue on July 13th but is unprepared for the job and must return to fix the hot water heater on July 14th.
Aug 19, 2021 – Coastline’s electrician does not respond
Coastline directed us to Ben of Sparks Electric Co, but Ben does not respond to our email. He cannot determine the cause of the high energy bills when he finally arrives, but our electric bills had finally normalized after the hot water heater was replaced.

Rent credit was issued to cover some of the cost of the high electric bills. The issue is finally resolved after nearly six months and just days before the mold incident begins.
